The following data takes Popular Vote by state and uses this percentage to allocate Electoral Votes per candidate, somewhat similar to how both Nebraska and Maine deliver their 5 and 4 respective Electoral Votes per candidate. This allows for a more proportional division of available votes, allowing more rural areas to compete with urban ones (and also challenging candidates to campaign outside of a handful of key swing states).
This is a completely theoretical distribution on the part of this site (a 'what-if' exercise) but provides a vision into what presidential election results would look like if such a format were undertaken. Republicans voting in Democratic strongholds like California, Illinois, and New York would have a greater say in election results. Conversely, Democratic voters in Republican strongholds like Alabama, Idaho, and Tennessee would see their votes carry much more weight against the overall outcome. For example, California's 55 EC votes would now be broken down along popular vote in that state, so the Republican candidate would earn 19 of those votes whilst the Democratic candidate would take away 36 (as opposed to claiming all 55).
The basic rules remain the same: 538 total Electoral Votes available with 270 needed to win.
